The 2300 acre Morro Bay estuary is fed freshwater via Chorro and Los Osos Creeks, which drain a 48,000 acre watershed. To learn more about Morro Bay and its watershed, visit the Morro Bay National Estuary Program
website.
Management Questions
A set of questions was developed to guide the direction of the pilot and the planning tool. These questions assess wetland location, condition,
and management to help reach state and national "no net wetland loss" policies and to evaluate the effectiveness of wetland protection
policies and programs. The questions include:
- Where are the wetlands?
- What type are they?
- What size are they?
- What are the wetlands' hydrological, biological, and physical status?
- Who owns the wetland properties?
- What wetland-related permitting activites have been conducted in the wetlands?
- Which wetlands are most vulnerable to future loss?
To answer these questions, the pilot integrates existing GIS data with data developed
specifically for the Morro Bay Watershed.
